Bathroom and kitchen fixtures are notoriously tough to clean. Here are our favourite tips for getting them looking like new again.
Remove Limescale with Vinegar
Limescale–the flakey, white mineral buildup that often appears on faucets, showerheads, and other fixtures–is unsightly and can clog up your showers and sinks, too, resulting in lower water pressure. Luckily, it is easy to get rid of with something you probably already have in your kitchen pantry: plain old white vinegar. Put vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it onto your fixtures. Let it sit for an hour or so, then wipe it off along with the limescale. Do this regularly to prevent limescale from building up too much and causing blockages.
Use a Toothbrush & Baking Soda
For faucets and taps that have hard-to-reach nooks and crannies, a toothbrush is your best friend. Keep a dedicated toothbrush for cleaning and reach for it whenever you need to scrub a difficult-to-reach spot. Add a little water to baking soda to make a paste and spread the paste all over the fixture you want to clean. Allow the baking soda to sit for 10-15 minutes, then scrub with the toothbrush and wipe away the leftover baking soda with a clean, damp cloth.
Use Lemon Juice on Brass Finish
If you have any brass-finish fixtures, you probably know that they can get dingey and lose their lustre easily. So how do you restore the shine? Lemon juice! Mix together equal parts lemon juice and baking soda to make a paste. Using a cloth, apply the paste to your brass fixture, then let it sit until it is dry. Once dry, use a sponge or cloth to rub off the lemon juice/baking soda mixture. You’ll be amazed at the results!
